Some of the benefits of individual therapy are:
  • A safe place to talk and work out their problems without judgement.
  • A place to develop new perspectives and life skills.
  • A safe adult to listen when adolescents don't want to talk to their parents.
  • When doing individual therapy, from time to time parents and/or siblings may be invited to session.

Group Therapy
Group therapy can be an addition to individual or family therapy.  Group therapy is a powerful tool to success in therapy. The benefits are that you realize you are not alone, that others do understand what you are going through.  Teens often feel guilt and shame about their problems.  Attending a group can be scary but it breaks down the guilt and shame and increases a sense of community.  As a result isolation is diminished.

Social Anxiety Group:

8 weeks beginning February 2, 2020
Ages:  17-18

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed for children and utilizes play, a natural form of expression for children, to help them express their feelings more easily. Play is a child’s language and it can provide a great deal of therapeutic healing, particularly when a child doesn’t yet have the words to express the complexity of their thoughts and feelings. While children may not be able to talk about their feelings they may select figures to play with and enact a dialogue that reflects their own true feelings.   Through Play Therapy, children have an opportunity to problem solve and enact a healing emotional experience.

ART Therapy:
Art Therapy is a specialized treatment that is unique to traditional talk therapy.  Art therapy invites the client to access one's own creative intelligence in a non-judgmental way. To those who are open to art therapy, the process of making art and the insight gained from the process, often allows for deep healing to take place within an atmosphere of freedom and exploration.

Art Therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

Art Therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensorimotor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change. (Taken from the American Art Therapy Association, 2017).

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR):

Have you ever had a memory that you re-live or replay over and over?

Are you the victim of bullying?
Did you experience a life event that was traumatic?
Have you had medical procedures that were so difficult you can't forget them?
Have you had a sports injury that healed physically, but your mental game was not the same?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then EMDR might be right for you.

Experiencing Trauma?

If you have suffered for years from anxiety or distressing memories, nightmares, insomnia, abuse or other traumatic events, you can now gain relief from a revolutionary new therapy called EMDR. Research shows that EMDR is rapid, safe and effective. EMDR does not involve the use of drugs or hypnosis. It is a simple, non-invasive patient-therapist collaboration in which healing can happen effectively. This powerful technique is highly effective for a wide range of disorders including chronic pain, phobias, depression, panic attacks, eating disorders and poor self-image, stress, worry, stage fright, performance anxiety, recovery from sexual abuse and traumatic incidents. Many patients who have made slow progress in the past, or who have not benefited from more traditional therapies say that with EMDR they have finally found something that works for them.
